Lakeview is located in eastern Oregon and at 4,800
feet (1,463.65 meters), Lakeview is one of the highest
altitude cities in Oregon. According to the United
States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.1
km˛ (1.6 mi˛). 4.0 km˛ (1.6 mi˛) of it is land and 0.64%

symbolizes Lakeview's claim as the "Tallest Town in
Oregon." Lakeview is the highest elevation, established
town in Oregon at 4800 feet.
Lakeview has been named "The Hang Gilding Capital of the
West." Hang Gliders and Para Gliders come from all over
the world to ride the strong updrafts that can carry
them on record breaking distance and altitude flights,
over a spectacular view of the Warner Mountains. Up to
300 pilots have been airborne at once during the annual
Fourth of July Festival.
Schools
Lakeview Senior High School, the only high school in the
city, serves grades 9 through 12. The attendance of the
school is approx. 350 students. Its mascot is the Honker
(Canada Goose). Sports include Football, Volleyball,
Cross-country, Boys and Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Ski
team, Baseball, Softball, Track and Field, and Golf.
CensusGR2 as of 2000:
there were 2,474 people, 1,037 households, and 695
families residing in the city. The population density
was 612.3/km˛ (1,582.7/mi˛). There were 1,220 housing
units at an average density of 302.0/km˛ (780.5/mi˛).
In the city the population was spread out with 25.4%
under the age of 18, 5.0% from 18 to 24, 24.1% from 25
to 44, 25.9% from 45 to 64, and 19.6% who were 65 years
of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every
100 females there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females
age 18 and over, there were 89.8 males.
There were 1,037 households out of which 29.1% had
children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.3%
were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female
householder with no husband present, and 32.9% were
non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of
individuals and 13.5% had someone living alone who was
65 years of age or older. The average household size was
2.34 and the average family size was 2.85.
The median income for a household in the city was
$30,960, and the median income for a family was $38,953.
Males had a median income of $31,958 versus $22,198 for
females. The per capita income for the city was $15,649.
About 14.3% of families and 15.3% of the population were
below the poverty line, including 20.1% of those under
age 18 and 13.3% of those age 65 or over.
