Prospect and its surrounding areas is a treasure of beauty and recreational opportunity to be discovered in any season of the year. Breathtaking views, green forests and magnificent waterfalls await you visit.
 
Prospect began as a logging town with the first sawmill operating in 1870. Since 1892, when the Historic Prospect Hotel first opened to guests, summer visitors have come to the Prospect area to enjoy the scenery and natural attractions. Visitors enjoy participating in various outdoor activities, from photographing the scenery to backpacking in the wilderness of the Rogue River National Forest. Prospect remains an unincorporated town and has thrived as a popular stopping point on the way to Crater Lake since the early 1900's.

Prospect boasts of its own school district, library, informal historical society, and a number of organizations. Prospect's population is around 650 (Apporx.)
Experience the community spirit of cultural events including the annual Prospect Jamboree & Timber Carnival, one of the last three timber carnivals in the state of Oregon. This popular event, now in its 53rd year, is always held the third week of August in Lions Park. The Prospect Blue Grass Festival, also held in Lions Park, is held the second weekend of July. On the third weekend of July, the town hold the annual Prospect "Fly-In" at the Prospect State Airport. This increasingly popular event attracts as many as seventy planes flying in from all areas of Oregon, California and other western states.
Located on the Rogue Umpqua National Scenic Byway, Prospect is near the wild and scenic Rogue River and an array of waterfalls. A trail head along Mill Creek Drive provides access to the Avenue of the Boulders, Barr Creek Falls, and Mill Creek Falls. Nearby North Fork Park offers day recreation and fishing.
 
Numerous state parks and forest service campgrounds are located in the area and provide access to fishing, boating, hiking and biking opportunities. Enjoy old logging roads that have been converted to miles and miles of off-highway vehicle trails. A swimming hole favored by locals, "The Peninsula" has a small waterfall and places to swim and wade.
 
Sugar pines and other tall evergreens forma canopy above, while fragrant pine cones litter the trails. In spring, before deciduous trees sprout their leaves, the forest floor is a soft carpet of green moss with small orchids poking through. Spring and fall bring mushrooms that draw hunters from afar. Autumn offers a cascade of brilliant colors and huckleberries for those who seek them out. Prospect is a gateway to winter recreational activities. Miles of cross country ski trails and 150 miles of well-groomed snowmobile trails take you to unsurpassed winter vistas, including Crater Lake. A great sledding hill is located nearby at Union Creek Resort. Join us for all-season fun!
